The great parliamentary realignment came at the perfect time for the 'moderates' of Congress. The ability to form a new party allowed them to escape the confines of their increasingly more ideologically extreme former parties. The Centrist party hopes to forge a path as the sensible choice for Americans who felt left out of the Republican and Democratic platforms. But they will have to deal with new realities.

The fracturing of the Republican party didn't only take from it moderates and anti-Trump conservatives, it also opened the door for a more extreme distillation of Trump era Republicanism. The America First party or, as they would prefer to call it, movement is the Trump ethos unchained from the stodgy confines of the Grand Old Party. The Conservative Party: a parliamentary party

After the parliamentary realignment, a new party is formed as a home for "true" conservatives. With conservatism being replaced by Trumpism in the Republican party, some members choose to form a new center-right party, hewing to traditional conceptions of small-government and personal responsibility. A party of Reagan and Goldwater, this party finds a home for never-Trump Republicans who either used their platforms to support Democrats or just sat out the last four years.

The resurgence of nationalism in the populist far-right across the West has led many on the left and center-left (and even center-right) to wonder how they can stem this seemingly popular tide.
